I was born in Tehran in 1974. Twenty three years later, I immigrated to Canada with my family and started a new life. The hardest part about being an immigrant wasn’t the language barrier or the other culture’s strange customs. It was not being able to share my true self with the public, always hitting barriers no matter how much I studied the language. Nothing was ever the same as when I told jokes or recounted stories in my own community.
I decided to change that, by sharing my story with the public in a way they could connect with and not just read but feel my background and culture. That’s how my memoir came into being. I chose a particular junction in my childhood because of a conversation I had one day with my mom. She asked what happened with the bullies who harassed me throughout seventh grade. I said I had no idea, because that year never reached an end. Then an idea came to me.
It seemed like a perfect plot for a manuscript. By then, I already had two under my belt, both sadly unpublished. Choosing to write a third one was bold move. But I was ready to go through another crucible of writing, editing, and feedback seeking in order to bring that story into the world, and I am happy about it now that the book is finished.
I love stories. It’s why I decided to become a writer at an early age. I have so many stories in my head that I needed an outlet to release them. I enjoy reading books, watching movies, and playing video games; all pathways to learn about more stories and feed my creative wellspring. My job as an online content designer doesn’t provide me with that. I hope that someday I could make a living from my writing so I could write even more and share more of my tales with the rest of the world. Until then, I use this little corner of the Internet to spill my imagination stars into the reflective pond of life.
